Fun Fall Family Activities

It’s my favorite time of the year….FALL! The kids are headed back to school (along with their teachers), mornings are so cool and crisp, that you want to stay in bed a little longer. I started thinking about all the fun fall activities that I would like to do with my family.
Apple picking: It is the perfect time to go apple-picking with your kids. We usually go to Sunset Orchards on 240 Gleaner Chapel Road in North Scituate, RI. I love that there is no pick your own apple minimum and there is a small hayride that will take you to the back of the farm. They have a great variety of apples to pick from. When you’re all done picking your own, don’t forget to go into their little store that has a bakery for some delicious treats before you get to bake some of your own. On the weekends, they are open 9-6 pm.
Zoo: I love to go to the zoo at this time of the year because the animals are much more active and come out more in the cooler weather and it also makes it much more enjoyable for us, too!
Jack-o-lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo: If you have never been, you are missing out on an awesome presentation that all ages will love. It’s a display of 5,000, (yes you read those zero’s correctly!) Jack-o-lanterns representing different regions of the USA; as this year’s presentation is titled Pumpkinville, USA. It starts on October 3rd until November 3rd and is open from 6-11pm, with the last admission at 10 pm. On Saturdays, admission will be extended an hour. Monday through Thursday adults cost $12, $10 seniors, and $9 for children ages 3-12 years old, under 3 is free. If you plan on going Friday through Sunday, you can expect admission to be $3 more per person.
Confreda Farms: I have never been here but have heard great things from others, I also remember driving by there last year and seeing lots of cars parked on the road and making a mental note that we had to check this gem out. Here are some of the things we’re looking forward to; picking out our own pumpkins, taking a hayride, playing on the playground and a bouncy slide for my boys to slide on.
Looking forward to the fun Fall days here in New England!

Catarina Anselmo

Hi, my name is Catarina and I'm glad you found me! I’m married to my supportive husband, Nelson and the mother of two, active boys Alexander who’s 5 (and attending Kindergarten at the International Charter School in the Fall!) and Cristiano who’s 1. My friends call me a Jill of many trades; during the day I’m a part-time Elementary ESL teacher and at night I work part-time at a local hospital. My interests include selling AVON, making creative diaper & teacher cakes, and reading although I’ll admit it takes me awhile to finish a book with my schedule. My guilty pleasures are reading and keeping up with local Rhody Mom blogs and watching Mistresses. I am lookign forward to writing articles for Parent Bug on great products and activities for young families, ways parents can help their children learn at home and other educational topics, and great gift ideas.
